Proton walks testing a new mid size sedan in Malaysia. This is a variation of the concept Tuah, presented last year. The new sedan has a slightly different aspect of the concept, especially the rear doors and body design.
The doors will receive a cut, as the Nissan Sentra, for example. The trunk lid is shorter than the concept, presenting a style closer to a coupe. However, the similarities between the two are most obvious on the front, where the set of hood grille, headlamps and bumper is very similar to the Concept Tuah. Probably this new Persona sedan should retire, current mid size sedan of the mark, falling below the new Proton Inspira, which is actually a Mitsubishi Lancer.

Proton Shares Up 0.56 Per Cent On Cooperation With Nissan

Proton Holdings Bhd shares rose after plunging 12.5 per cent over the last two days after it signed a memorandum of understanding with Nissan Motor Co Ltd to study potential cooperation areas.
At 10.14am, Proton shares were up 0.56 per cent or two sen to RM3.60.
The cooperation includes potential use of Nissan's platform and power-train.
Hwang DBS Vickers Research Sdn Bhd said the move formed part of Proton's initiatives to expand its current market segment, targeting mainly segment B and C, ranging from 1.2 liter Proton Savvy to 2.0 liter Proton Perdana and Proton Inspira.
"We believe a collaboration with Nissan could mean another "Inspira" like a re-badge model to be introduced to consumers in the medium term," it said in a research note Wednesday.
Hwang DBS said this was a sensible move for Proton to expand its market segment and launch new models with lower capital expenditure, and possibly shorter development time, given that most of its focus and funding were in the five-year restructuring plan of Lotus Group.

Proton Inspira Launched.

Proton Inspira 1 620x413 Proton Inspira finally unveiled in Malaysia
Proton, a Malaysian automaker, has just unveiled its Inspira sedan after a sneak peak show last month. The Proton Inspira is pretty much a re-badged Mitsubishi Lancer sedan but with a few modifications to serve the Malaysian market.
Actually, the Proton Inspira sedan looks more robust and powerful than the Mitsubishi Lancer sedan sold in the U.S. We can see the modifications in the signature Proton grille, front bumper and hood. And underneath the hood, the Proton Inspira is equipped with two choices of a 1.8-liter or 2.0-liter MIVEC engines from Mitsubishi. In addition, the 2.0-liter MIVEC engine is available with the CVT transmission.
As Dato’ Sri Mohd Nadzmi Mohd, the Chairman of Proton parent corporation Proton Holdings Berhad, explains,”PROTON is ready to move even further ahead to become a recognized player in the global automotive industry. We have been working and collaborating with Mitsubishi for the last 25 years and its a natural step forward for us to continue to work with them in this project. One of our product strategy is to introduce non-core models through strategic collaborations which provides a more efficient, timely, and cost effective product to the market. The Proton Inspira is an excellent example of this strategic collaboration.”
All and all, the Proton Inspira is basically another Mitsubishi Lancer that looks a bit better with a few tweaks. We hate to rain on anybody’s parade, but any aftermarket manufacturer can do same.
